Press start and you are put into a video call with one other person who is looking for the same thing. There is no account, no download and no waiting list. If the conversation is not working, Next finds somebody else, and End closes the call and your camera.

A call is sent directly between the two browsers and encrypted end to end. Nothing is recorded — not by us and not by anyone else — so there is no video to store, review or leak. Because the connection is direct, each side can see the IP address of the other, as on most video-calling apps; we never store it. When the two of you cannot reach each other directly, the encrypted call is passed through a relay instead, and then neither of you sees the other.

Camera on, microphone your choice

Camera and microphone access is required to join a call, and the camera stays on for the whole conversation — there is no way to switch it off part-way, because a video page where people watch without being seen stops being a video page. The microphone is different: you can mute it whenever you like. You can also send text and photos during a call.

Staying safe on camera

Treat a video call with a stranger as public: anything on camera can be screenshotted by the person you are talking to, here or anywhere else. Keep identifying things out of frame, and use Report if someone behaves badly — three separate reports within an hour block that person automatically.
